Weekend 2
Its almost 12 and I should be sleeping but:
1) I have a late (10am) start tomorrow.
2) I got up at like 11am today
3) Chi and I napped in the car just then.
So I'm going to blog about THIS weekend. And try to make it better than the last post which was fucking boring and dry (I realised).
Friday was the bomb (and I suck at adjectives - need to make use of thesaurus). Chi finished work early and picked me up from my work. He is my personal chauffer (kidding). We drove back to his place so he could shower and change out of work clothes then drove to Lakemba because I really wanted to try authentic Lebanese food.
Research on Eatability.com showed that El Manara had the best food ever.... But once we got there, it was a shocker. The place looked like a take away joint, with some old vinyl seats and those weird clear plastic covers over the tables. It was deserted apart from 2 very seedy looking men inside. On the site it describe the ambience as always packed, and "cosy". But it was more like, you enter and exit sans kidney/wallet.
So we went to a much more up market/friendly place up the road. They had mini LCD TVs at every booth, which was effing awesome. And Chi said "I bet they only got this because it was stolen" LOL. Have some faith.. Chi had the mixed plate, and I had this fish dish. It came with complimentary bread and pickles. Oh, the mixed plate was so nice. Ten fold better than Sahara or those kabab places. My fish dish was so different/unusual. It was grilled fish, under a mountain of hummous, topped with these crunchy bits, and pine nuts. It was great! I loved it. Cept I couldnt even finish half of it. Labanese food is SALTY. But it was a great experience, and at least now I've eaten authentic Lebanese food in the heart of Lakemba. And it was cheap as chips.
Then the high light of the night. Driving full speed to Newtown. Driving like mad trying to find parking. Getting lost in the alley ways whilst parking. Eventually parking somewhere random and discovering it was miles from where we wanted to be - which was the Enmore Theatre because I had tickets to the Crackers 2008 Comedy Festival to see Akmal!
It way exceed our expectations, mainly because we didnt have any. Neither of us had been to any live shows and the stuff on TV didnt seem that exciting. But it was awesome-ness (?). There was an opening act, which warmed us up nicely. And these guys that placed the ubb (?), some sort of middle eastern instrument - kind like the guitar. And the number 1 tamberine player in the world. It blew my mind. I didnt even know that was an instrument.. I though you just like shook it to the beat of the music. But this guy made all sorts of magic with it.
Then Akmal came out, and he was WAY funnier than I ever expected. Sure, he was abit scattered, but soo funny. He mostly picked on people from the audience and bounced stuff off them. But it was great, and he's so smart/talented.. hence famous etc.
That was great. One of the best nights Ive ever had.
Okay now Im tired.. that took too long.
Far this is hard.
I'm sleeping now. I might write about what I did on Saturday and today later.
Preview: Sydney Wildlife Park, Watsons Bay, basketball, gourmet pizza - in the car - in the dark - by a park - sleeping in the car after pigging out on gourmet pizza (but nothing seedy I swear).
